About Bahaarstore

How Bahar Began
Founded in June 2020 by Awantika, Bahar began as more than just a clothing brand—it was a heartfelt response to a time of global uncertainty. During the COVID-19 lockdown, when job loss and emotional instability affected countless lives, Bahar emerged with a purpose: to empower people through meaningful work and mindful fashion.

At the time, Awantika was pursuing her graduation from the University of Calcutta. Bahar took shape in the quiet, culturally rich town of Chandannagar—a former French colony nestled along the banks of the Hooghly River. Known for its heritage architecture, vibrant festivals, and artistic soul, the town’s unique blend of old-world charm and modern aspirations became the perfect birthplace for Bahar—a brand that celebrates roots while embracing the present.

Before Bahar, finding truly comfortable festive wear was a challenge. Silk was often seen as unwearable or uncomfortable, while cotton, though soft and breathable, rarely felt festive enough. This gap sparked a journey. Bahar began working with premium handloom fabrics like Khadi, Linen, Cotton, and especially Handloom Cotton, breathing new life into their elegance for everyday luxury and celebration wear.

Today, our handloom cotton suit sets are bestsellers in partywear, and our silk pieces, crafted for comfort and authenticity, are cherished for being both elegant and effortlessly wearable—all while remaining accessible and affordable.

What We Stand For
At Bahar, our vision is simple but strong: to empower Indian handloom and craftsmanship by giving them a modern, wearable twist.

In today’s era, while many are drawn to Western fashion, there's a growing disconnect with the extraordinary legacy we have within our own borders. This generation often remains unaware of the artistry, storytelling, and soulfulness that Indian textiles carry—gifts passed down by our ancestors. We want to bridge that gap.

While the Indian fashion industry is heavily influenced by global trends—especially Western and American ones—our future vision is to bring Indian artisanship and textiles to the global stage. Designers may have already introduced Indian craft to the world, but much of it remains out of reach for the everyday consumer. At Bahar, we aim to make Indian craftsmanship globally visible and locally affordable, so that what we wear carries a story—one that's deeply ours, and universally beautiful.

Fashion That Feels Personal
Every piece at Bahar is thoughtfully designed to reflect the uniqueness of the person wearing it. We were among the first in our community to pioneer customized clothing, where no two outfits are ever quite the same—just like no two people are.

We believe fashion should celebrate individuality. That’s why each creation is not just tailored to fit, but tailored to feel personal, allowing our patrons to wear their story—woven with heritage, elevated by design.

Thoughtful from Start to Finish
Sustainability is not a trend at Bahar—it’s a principle. From the beginning, we’ve followed a strict zero-waste policy, transforming leftover fabrics into new, purposeful products. Nothing goes to waste. Every scrap becomes a story.

Our commitment to mindful fashion means we are always looking for ways to reduce our footprint, respect our artisans, and honor our materials. At Bahar, we don’t just create clothes. We create statements—of identity, tradition, and conscious living.
